Our cultural center is the most traditional of the region for independent artists, completes 10 years in activity in this years and hosts around 400 shows per year.

The independent music scene reality is very alike worldwide. But if you’re engaged with your work it usually pays off. I think that the brazilian scene have developed and professionalized itself in the last 10 years. It gives us the opportunity to understand our place in the market, polictics and other areas of our cultural activities. So, we’ve bettered ourselves. Of course, we have a long path ahead so we can survive from independent music in Brazil. I think even the notions of how to do it have changed. There’s no sense in only performing, you have to undertake in the area and have a “music life style”. That’s how things work.

One of the most wonderful things that music has gave to me, was the oportunity to know places and people from all over the world. That exchange of cultural knowledge is the main reason why I invest so much in hosting and also travel around various places of the planet. I think that’s the world tendency is to be one, no frontiers, no barriers. The culture and music can help leverage this idea. All passing thru the idea of cultural and personal interchange.

It’s our first time in europe with the band. We’re very anxious to have this experience. The “Camarones” is a intriguing band with the most various influences, including movies and cartoons. Relating to music, we like Power Pop, Metal, Rockabilly and rocksteady. Our sound is a mixture of all those influences.

Ana what do you think about the music industry ?

Many people has been talking about a 30% regression in the music market in the last years, not only in Brazil. I believe that the industry is getting to a more realistic baseline for the majority of the artists that make music in the world. The market is more democratic and crowded, and then, of course, there are a lot of things good and many others bad. Even so, I think that it is more interesting this new context in which 1.000 artists receive $ 1.000,00 rather than 10 artists receiving $100.000,00. Still, we are in an adaptation process mainly in relation to technology, and I believe that we will have the most diversifying models of work within the music market.

Ive been chocked by the misery in Brazil and the high clivage between the poor, the middle class and the rich, as musician do you think you can change something ? And how ?

We, DoSol, believe that through cultural maturity in a society, other social barriers are broken and the changes begin to happen gradually. Our work relies in democratize the access of a type of art that isn’t in the media for a majority of people. Through cultural maturity of a society, the individual will now have a more critical and clear look of your own role within the community, which gives strength for social changes to happen.

you are playing in an instrumental band, what is your message and how do you want to transmit it ?

In Brazil for a long time instrumental music was reduced to a classical musician circle, virtuosos, or even more with those people that worked with experimental esthetic. The Camarones comes from another source of the instrumental music which has as objective to get closer to the common audience of music without the appeal of a lyric, but with great emphasis in the sensorial experience in a show. In our case, the Camarones is a fun band, joyful, and we try to have a upbeat show, com punch. The idea is to receive from the audience the same energy that we send them during the presentation.

As woman in a band, do you feel you have the mission to say something about the women conditions in the world or not ?

No. I believe that the more you praise the fact of being a woman in the band, the more you carry the prejudice or the exotic of it. My mission as an artist there’s nothing to do with the fact of me being a woman. Every artist feels accomplished when someone says that you are their inspiration, liked the show, was moved, and became a fan. Many girls have come up to me and said that they had the courage of having a band and play, just from watching our show. I’m thrill and with the sensation that that’s the way it should be. But happy equally regardless of gender.

We are happy to be able to play there. We want to bring a little culture, music and customs of Brazil where we go, see you at the shows ! :)
